Estimated read time 2 min read

The Stanford men’s basketball team is looking to turn things around after a disappointing 14-19 season. With a strong recruiting class and a solid core of returning players, the Cardinal has the potential to make a run at the Pac-12 and NCAA Tournaments.

New Staff.

The biggest news at Stanford is the addition of McDonald’s All-American Andre Stojakovic and four-star recruit Kanan Carlisle. Stojakovic is a 6-foot-7 shooting guard who is the son of former NBA All-Star Peja Stojakovic. Carlisle is a 6-foot-3 two-way guard known for his three-level scoring and competitiveness.

Returning players

Stanford also returns several key players from last year’s team, including fifth-year forward Spencer Jones, Academic All-America senior forward Brandon Angel and sharpshooter graduate student guard Michael Jones. Jones is a proven scorer and rebounder, while both Angel and Jones are excellent three-point shooters.

Schedule.

Stanford will start the season with a four-game homestand against mid-major teams before traveling to the Bahamas for Battle 4 Atlantis. there, they will face No. 14 Arkansas, then either Memphis or Michigan in the second game and possibly No. 19 North Carolina in the third game, No. 22 Villanova University or Texas Tech. It will be a huge challenge for the Cardinal, but big early wins against ranked opponents will set the tone for the rest of the season.

Keys to Success.

If Stanford wants to make the NCAA Tournament, they will need to improve their shooting, guard play and player development. They will also need to find a way to replace Harrison Ingram, who transferred to the University of North Carolina in the offseason.
